Dash

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

BREED: Jack Russell Terrier IDEAL HOME: a home with a garden LIVING WITH CHILDREN: I could live with children 10 years plus LIVING WITH DOGS: Iwould prefer to be the only dog in the household LIVING WITH CATS: I’ve never lived with cats Meet Dash, our handsome 6–7-year-old Jack Russell Terrier who came into our care through no fault of his own. What a little cracker he is! Dash has certainly won over our volunteers with his friendly nature and lovely personality, and it's easy to see why everyone is so fond of him. Dash is a very friendly little chap who will happily head off on a walk with just about anyone and thoroughly enjoy himself. He loves getting out and about, having a good sniff and exploring the world around him. He walks beautifully on the lead, generally keeping a nice, calm pace by your side. The only time he tends to pull is when he encounters a dog he isn't keen on, particularly if they bark at him. As with many terriers, Dash has a mind of his own when it comes to other dogs! He can be selective about who he likes, sometimes happily passing another dog without a second glance, while reacting to others. Because of this, we feel Dash would be happiest as the only dog in the household, where he can enjoy all the attention without the stress of sharing his home. With careful, positive socialisation around suitable dogs, his confidence may continue to develop, but this would need to be managed responsibly and at his pace. Dash has previously lived with and been around children, so we feel he could potentially live with children aged 8 years and over, provided they are used to dogs, understand their boundaries and give him space when he wants some quiet time. Unfortunately, Dash is not a fan of cats and will chase them, so he cannot live with cats or small animals. Jack Russells may be small, but they are certainly not short on character! They are typically energetic, intelligent and curious little dogs with a strong instinct to explore, sniff and chase. They often have a playful, independent streak and benefit from owners who understand their terrier traits. Although Dash is a lovely, friendly boy, his new family should be prepared to meet his exercise and enrichment needs. A Jack Russell still needs plenty to keep his mind and body active, even as they get older. An active home: Dash needs owners who will meet his daily exercise requirements with regular walks, opportunities to sniff and explore, and activities suited to his age and fitness. To be the only dog: Due to his selective reactions towards other dogs, we feel he would be most comfortable as the only dog in the household. No cats or small animals: Dash has a strong chasing instinct and cannot live with cats or other small pets. Older, dog-savvy children: Children aged 8+ who understand how to behave respectfully around dogs and recognise when he needs space. Continued socialisation: Calm, carefully managed encounters with suitable dogs may help him build positive experiences. His interactions should never be forced, and he should be given space from dogs he finds uncomfortable. Mental stimulation: Sniffing games, treat puzzles, training activities and suitable toys will help keep his clever terrier brain busy. A secure garden: A secure outdoor space where he can safely potter about, play and enjoy some extra time outside would be beneficial. A loving home: Dash is a sociable little chap who enjoys human company and would love a family to take him on adventures and make him part of everyday life. Dash really is a lovely little dog who has so much to offer. He enjoys his walks, loves spending time with people and has already made a big impression on everyone here at S.A.R.A. He simply needs a home that understands his terrier personality, respects his boundaries around other dogs and can give him the exercise and stimulation he deserves. Could you be the one to give this little cracker the happy forever home he's waiting for? ❤️ Interested in adopting Dash? Call or contact us.

About Dash

What life with Dash looks like

Dash is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at SARA Ann Prosser Foundation in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dash, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dash?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SARA Ann Prosser Foundation handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dash on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dash if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SARA Ann Prosser Foundation will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Dash already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dash isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SARA Ann Prosser Foundation early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dash and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
