Dave

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Male · Young · 1 year

Darling Dave is the most lovely, full of cheeky personality boy ever! He never fails to make you smile, and he has so much love to give! Once he has been introduced to new people, he makes wonderful connections. Dave absolutely adores all of his favourite people and can build lovely relationships. He has been making good progress here at the centre and adding more people to his circle! He adores toy play and training; he will be an extremely rewarding dog to rehome for the right family who wants to give a dog a chance and some extra support, too. If you can offer this fabulous boy a patient and loving forever home, and are looking for a dog full of personality, Dave is your pawfect match! Dave is on the search for his forever home! He would love a family looking to open their home to a high-energy, cheeky boy, and would be happy to help Dave along his journey to become more confident around new people and dogs. Dave would like his future adopters to provide him with both long-term management and training to keep him safe, comfortable, and confident. His ideal future forever family should be happy to work alongside the behaviour team during his meetings and transition into his new home. Dave would love to live in a quiet, rural area away from highly dog-populated areas, where he can go on walks that he will be able to enjoy. Dave could live with older secondary children, who are dog-savvy. He would love his future home to have a private garden that he can enjoy playing and running around in. He would appreciate minimal leave hours as he is adjusting to his new environment. Dave would like to be the only dog and pet in the home. As Dave is settling into his home, he would like minimal visitors, but once he has had plenty of time to feel comfortable and happy in his new place, his adopters can then follow his intro plan for new people, so that Dave can make new friends! Dave would benefit from adopters who are quite dog-experienced and have worked with dogs with some quirks, but this isn't essential. He would like his adopters to be open, happy to learn, work with our team and take on their advice on how they can give Dave the best home life. He would love for his adopters to be open to learning about how to help him carry on making positive progress.

About Dave

What life with Dave looks like

Dave is a medium-sized young adult staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Dogs Trust Harefield in Harefield.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires ongoing behavioral support and training for confidence building around new people and dogs. Needs quiet rural environment with minimal visitors initially.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dave, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dave?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Harefield handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dave on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dave if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Harefield will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dave already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dave isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Harefield early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dave and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
