Deejay

Podenco · Male

Deejay is a stunning, graceful Podenco Ibicenco (Ibizan Hound) who trots around elegantly like a show pony! He was rescued by one of our partner kennels recently after he was spotted out and about straying. He’s a really lovely nicely balanced chap who has stolen the hearts of all the volunteers. He can be a little wary in new situations initially and shy around newcomers but he loves people he knows and will make a wonderful companion. He is fantastic with other dogs, and loves to play and would ideally benefit from at least one other dog in the home, but for a patient adopter we do think he could blossom as an only dog in time. He is a very gentle boy and a slightly quieter household would suit him best. He does like to be active and is still a young boy, so an active family feels important for him. Deejay is neutered, vaccinated and snap tested negative for Mediterranean diseases - we are in the process of re-testing him in full. He is passported and available for adoption now. About Deejay

What life with Deejay looks like

Deejay is a adult podenco dog waiting at Hope for Podencos in Albacete.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Deejay, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Deejay?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hope for Podencos handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Deejay on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Deejay if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hope for Podencos will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Deejay already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Deejay isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hope for Podencos early rather than rehoming privately; they know Deejay and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
