Adopt Denali

Alaskan Malamute · Male · Adult · 6 years

Denali is a very large, charming, and proud male Alaskan Malamute. He is a very confident dog who goes through life calmly and simply moves past most things. He knows exactly who he is and what he wants, but is also very cooperative with his people. Typical of Malamutes, Denali is very talkative and you can hear his “auauauwuuuuh” even at morning greetings. Denali also meets strangers with openness and calmness; with his trusted people, he is playful, soft, and cuddly. Out and about, he is very environmentally aware and enjoys experiencing new adventures. He knows how to walk on a leash and would surely enjoy having a task to do. The male dog has very good social behavior, especially with medium to large-sized dogs. He is very stable and stands above most things here as well, taking great joy in interacting with others. In the ideal case, Denali can stay together with his friend Makalu, and we will find a place where both can live together. They have lived together for years and are very attached to each other. Where are the people who can give Denali a home with plenty of space and love for these independent, amazing dogs? Do you think you are the right person for Denali or would you like to get to know him better?

About Denali

What life with Denali looks like

Denali is a extra-large adult alaskan malamute dog waiting at Tierschutzverein für Tirol in Innsbruck.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Denali, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Denali?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein für Tirol handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Denali on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Denali if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein für Tirol will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Denali already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Denali isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein für Tirol early rather than rehoming privately; they know Denali and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
