Diva &#8211

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 9 years

Rescued in Spain. Diva is a wonderful mix of dog breeds, as different as they can be – namely the Breton Spaniel and the Bodeguero. The Breton is the softest of all dogs, easy to handle, sensitive, and clingy, while the Bodeguero is one of the largest terriers and shows the classic energetic, sovereign nature of the little world conquerors. In mixes like Diva, the surprise of what ends up being the result is always great, but in Diva’s case, the best genes from both worlds have come through. Unfortunately, the potential of the beautiful female dog was never fostered. When Diva, at some weeks old in the summer of 2019, fell in love with an older lady, the then hand-tellergroße puppy moved in with her. For the playful and sporty girl, a time of suffering began. Her mistress was rarely able to take her for walks, there was no garden, and there was no space in the house for playing and learning. A terrier who must lie in a corner of the room from a young age, occasionally stroked but never fostered, usually seeks mental stimulation on its own – often the inventory is damaged, shoes are chewed, and cushions and blankets reveal their inner life. If all of this had happened, Diva’s owner might have noticed much earlier that her dog was not made for a life by her side, but Diva was simply too much Breton to make herself understood; she just became more and more sad. For some time, the owner of our new arrival has needed the help of a social service. The staff member who comes to support every day has convinced the senior lady to give Diva a new start and also asked ArcoNatura for help. So, Diva moved into the animal shelter – and even though there are far too many dogs there, the weather is always becoming less pleasant, and there is little time for contact with the individual animals, Diva has rediscovered her wide smile. Diva is a female dog at four years old (as of November 2023), in the very best age, she is curious, playful, loves to cuddle, and is very eager to learn. She has successfully navigated the cliffs of puberty, knows life in the house (though not the life we hope to give her soon), has a comfortable size, and – as no one doubts – looks strikingly good. We are looking for an active home for this wonderful princess, with people of all sizes who like to be outdoors, who slide on the couch when Diva needs affection, who are creative when it comes to keeping Diva’s smart head busy in the house, and who understand that Diva, despite her age, still lacks many experiences. Diva can live well with other dogs, but she shows a bit of a grumpy side when it comes to sharing food. The Bodeguero doesn’t find cats so great, but we could imagine that the owner’s cat would be accepted like many other dogs, while the neighbor cats should be more attentive and quick when straying through the garden. Children find Diva irresistible; the playful little children are exactly what she has missed for four years – playmates with energy and imagination.

DE·Show original

In Spanien vermittelt.

About Diva &#8211

What life with Diva &#8211 looks like

Diva &#8211 is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Diva &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Diva &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Diva &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Diva &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Diva &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Diva &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Diva &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
