Dixi

Male · Young · 2 years

Due to the ongoing proceedings, we are looking for a temporary home for him with priority given to adoption. Dixi is a very young dog of terrier type. In his first interactions with humans, he tends to be shy, as he was rescued following an intervention. When he first arrived at the shelter, he was afraid of people, unfamiliar objects, and couldn't yet walk on a leash. Currently, he allows himself to wear a harness nicely and walks calmly on a loose leash close to his human companion. In moments of uncertainty, he seeks support by asking for petting and soothing words. Dixi is a dog who deeply values human touch—it calms him, gives him reassurance, and brings him great joy. Street traffic still causes him stress, so it would be best if he found a home far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. As befits a terrier, Dixi loves to sniff every bush he comes across, and in familiar surroundings, he runs and plays energetically, just like any young dog should. Indoors, he’s starting to feel more and more confident. Thanks to consistent work with a trusted human companion, he’s making tremendous progress. For a long time, he lived in a kennel with his brother Pixim, with whom he gets along well. He’d probably also get along well with another dog.

About Dixi

What life with Dixi looks like

Dixi is a small young adult dog waiting at Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu in Poznan.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dixi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dixi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dixi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dixi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dixi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dixi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dixi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
