Django

Beagle · Male · Young · 1 year

Beagle, age: 10-01-2025 Other characteristics: eye removed surgically Can live with other dogs: possibly with a stable female Can live with cats: ? Can live in an apartment: no, a house with a garden is needed Can live with children: yes, 14+ A control was carried out by the animal police at a known address, where several dogs and two cats were seized again. This was already the third time, but apparently it is still not clear to the people involved that when animals are regularly taken away and you receive a ban, this means that you should no longer bring new animals into your home. The animals were neglected again and were in poor housing conditions, so the shelter is an upgrade for them. All animals have now been assigned to us and we hope, just like with the previous two groups that were removed, to find a nice home for these lovebirds as well. Django was seen to be suffering from his eye, which had no function anymore. He had been carrying this for a long time and it caused him a lot of discomfort. The eye was surgically removed and since then he feels much better. His scrotum was inflamed, his ears were inflamed and he had a bite wound on his paw when he arrived. This would have been from a conflict with another dog. Django needed some more time. He prefers to keep an eye out. It can be won by him, especially with a lot of patience and not forcing him. He loves meat, which certainly helps in building the bond. When the bond is there, we see a wagging tail as soon as we talk to him. A point of attention is peeing indoors. This may absolutely come from the smells of other dogs, but he could have done this often at home, so he can do it at his new home too. Django already walks on a leash and he really enjoys it. Nose on the ground and following all the scents. His tail is working overtime, his nose is turning full speed and at the end of the walk he is tired and satisfied. This gentle man is looking for gentle people. A smaller family where they are patient and want to support Django at their own pace to feel completely comfortable in the house, walks and especially give him the care and love he needs. He had a conflict with another male; an adoption by a female is certainly worth considering. Are you interested in Django? Then fill out our questionnaire via the website or send an email to .

About Django

What life with Django looks like

Django is a young adult beagle dog waiting at Dierenasiel Genk in Genk.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Django, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Django?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Genk handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Django on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Django if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Genk will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Django already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Django isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Genk early rather than rehoming privately; they know Django and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
