Adopt Eddie

Beagle · Male · Senior · 9 years

Our dear Eddie is an open and friendly senior who meets people and life with great curiosity and composure. He enjoys the company of his Eddie very much and wishes for a loving home where he belongs. At the moment, it's still difficult for Eddie to be alone. How well this will work for him in a quiet and familiar environment, we cannot say. For his age, Eddie is surprisingly fit. He loves going for walks. He is mentally fit and shows himself to be sovereign in traffic. Although Eddie is deaf, he meets new situations without fears or uncertainties. Eddie is very well socialized with fellow animals and is suitable as a 2nd or 3rd dog. He will also have no problems with bigger children, as he would be a great family dog who likes to participate in everyday life and be everywhere. Like many older dogs, Eddie also brings age-related challenges. Due to a front leg posture issue, it is to be expected that he will have to rely on pain medication permanently. However, this does not take away his zest for life. For Eddie, we are looking for people with hearts who would like to give an older dog a chance and take him as he is. Anyone who wants to give a loyal companion the golden years in a loving home gets Eddie, a friendly, uncomplicated, and grateful companion for life.

About Eddie

What life with Eddie looks like

Eddie is a large senior beagle dog waiting at Tierheim Uhlenkrog Kiel in Kiel.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Eddie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Eddie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Uhlenkrog Kiel handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Eddie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Eddie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Uhlenkrog Kiel will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Eddie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Eddie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Uhlenkrog Kiel early rather than rehoming privately; they know Eddie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
