Dobbie

Unknown · Adult · 8 years

Meanwhile, Dobbie has been staying with us at the animal shelter for quite some time now. During this period, we’ve gotten to know him really well. We now know exactly what makes him happy—and above all, it’s plenty of freedom, peace, and space. Dobbie is a true outdoor dog. He can’t stand being cooped up and thoroughly enjoys life outdoors. That’s why we’re looking for a rural home for him: a large property, a spacious garden, a yard, or a farm where he can roam around to his heart’s content and explore his surroundings. That would make Dobbie the happiest dog in the world. An enclosed outdoor kennel would be just fine with him. He loves having a stable routine and feels safe in an environment he knows well. A crate, on the other hand, is definitely not for him. Walks through busy streets, village centers, or shopping malls are simply not his thing. Instead, give him a lovely hike in nature, where he can sniff out all sorts of scents—something he absolutely loves. Moreover, Dobbie has a strong hunting instinct. He won’t just let mice, birds, or other small game pass by unnoticed. Cats, therefore, aren’t a good match for him. And will he guard his territory? Absolutely! 😉 He likes keeping an eye on his surroundings. Towards people, Dobbie is a social and friendly dog. He enjoys company, but doesn’t expect a dog that wants to sit on your lap all day long or constantly be cuddled. He’d rather be with you, each of you doing your own thing. Do you think you could offer Dobbie the home he’s been searching for so long? Or are you still unsure and would like more information first, or to meet him in person? Feel free to get in touch with us. We’ll be delighted to tell you more about Dobbie and see together whether he’s a good fit for your situation. Who knows—maybe he’ll finally find the home he’s been longing for.

NL·Show original

About Dobbie

What life with Dobbie looks like

Dobbie is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Dierenasiel Ganzeweide in Veurne.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dobbie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dobbie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Ganzeweide handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dobbie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dobbie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Ganzeweide will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dobbie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dobbie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Ganzeweide early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dobbie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
