Donald

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 12 months

He was fast, clever, and elusive – for a long time he played with us in the game of hide and seek, as if saying, "I'm not ready yet." But when he finally agreed to be convinced and came under our wings, we discovered that behind his agility and alertness was simply a scared dog who had never known closeness. Donald is a guy from a past we don't know – but the effects of it are still visible in his behavior. Who is this dog for? Donald is looking for a very special person – someone who will understand that fear doesn't disappear immediately, and that every inch of trust is a huge success. He's a dog for a patient, calm person, preferably already experienced in working with fearful dogs or ready to learn. He needs a home where there is no pressure, noise, or overstimulation. A place full of empathy where he can decide himself when he's ready for more. Who are we looking for? A caregiver who won't expect "good morning pets" or long walks on the first day. For now, Donald doesn't walk on a leash – that's still ahead of us. But importantly, he allows himself to be picked up and feels relatively safe in that form. That's a lot, considering his start. Working with him will require calm steps and positive reinforcement – and then slowly, step by step, Donald will begin to open up. What's worth knowing about him? He's a fearful dog – not aggressive, but withdrawn. He doesn't walk on a leash yet, but allows himself to be carried in arms. He hasn't known life in a relationship with a human yet – everything he does now is his first steps into a new world. He needs time, calm, and routine – it's in these conditions that he will develop best. In our animal shelter, we take care of the health of every animal – that's why we regularly perform tests, which sometimes reveal something not visible at first glance. This was the case with Donald – during a control ultrasound, the veterinarians noticed a concerning change in the spleen. Thanks to quick diagnosis, an operation to remove the spleen (so-called splenectomy) was performed, which was necessary to save his life. The operation went without complications, and Donald is returning to his shape. Importantly – dogs can live completely normally without a spleen. They just need a warm, calm home and basic care, like any other dog. For you as a caregiver, this doesn't mean any daily medical obligations. Donald is a dog who hasn't fully understood that humans can be good. But if you show him – you have a chance to change his whole life. And if you can't adopt him, but want to help – you can do something equally important. Permanently takes heart medication, interested in adoption will be introduced to the details of further treatment. Weight: 10 kg Leash: No Neutered, dewormed, vaccinated, chipped, registered in the Safe Animal database. PL·Show original

Operacja przebiegła bez komplikacji, a Donald wraca do formy. About Donald

What life with Donald looks like

Donald is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Fundacja Puszatek in Warszawa.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Donald, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Donald?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fundacja Puszatek handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Donald on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Donald if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fundacja Puszatek will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Donald already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Donald isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fundacja Puszatek early rather than rehoming privately; they know Donald and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
