How do I contact the shelter about Dora?

Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Straydogs Rescue Nederland handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dora on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.

Can I adopt Dora if I live in another country?

Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Straydogs Rescue Nederland will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.

Is Dora already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?

Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.

What happens if Dora isn't the right fit?

Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Straydogs Rescue Nederland early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dora and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.

Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?

TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.

Dora

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy

Dora, a small dog, was found severely emaciated along the road near the exit to the shelter. She has likely been chained for a long time. When she was found, she immediately went to Elisa's arms and showed how much she wants to be with people. She gets along well with cats and loves people. Despite everything she has been through, she is an incredibly sweet and affectionate dog. Starting October 5, 2026, our team members will be visiting the shelter again. They will of course spend time with Dora to get to know her better! Dora is ready for a one-way trip to the Netherlands and can join a future transport if we find a good place for her. Of course, all necessary vaccinations must be up to date before departure. Additionally, her health will be checked and she will have a registered chip and a passport before departure. If a suitable adopter or foster family comes forward for her, our foundation will arrange transportation from the shelter, using professional pet transport. Our dogs are brought home one by one to their foster or permanent home.

About Dora

What life with Dora looks like

Dora is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Straydogs Rescue Nederland in RC Nieuwe Pekela.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.
