Dorie

Labrador Retriever · Male · Adult · 7 years

Dorie is a medium-sized male Jindo/Labrador mix weighing 13 kg, who arrived at the shelter at the beginning of 2021. Since his initial arrival as a shy and defensive young dog, Dorie has really turned around and developed into a top-notch companion! He now feels safe around people and loves to cuddle and play with them. He gets along well with his kennel mates and just loves taking long exciting walks with the volunteers. He is quite smart and will sit, lie down and stand up for treats. He can also catch treats in the air if you throw them! The handsome Dorie has been in the shelter for far too long and has overrun his stay, which puts him near the top of the list for euthanasia if the shelter population ever exceeds capacity. Unfortunately, Dorie has also tested positive for heartworms and does not qualify for treatment unless an interested adopter is found. Dorie desperately seeks a loving and patient forever family who can give him a second chance in life and provide him with the daily exercise he deserves, and help him become his confident self! The Korean animal welfare organization prepares the dogs well for a home. They are house-trained, social and friendly. The dogs go to foster homes in Korea so they can quickly feel safe and secure in a home. New information: And, this is regarding Dorie. He has moved to a foster home where he is staying together with Leffe. At first, it seemed like he had forgotten basic commands such as "sit," "paw," and "wait," but he remembered them again very quickly. His foster mom told me that when he first arrived a couple of days ago, she let him explore the yard for a little while. After that, he quietly waited at the front door, and once he came inside, he lay down and fell asleep peacefully. Her young child even put her hand into Dorie's food bowl, and he didn't react at all, he simply continued eating calmly. Dorie is clearly a dog who was once raised lovingly in a home before being abandoned. He suffered for a long time in the city shelter and has waited so patiently for a family. We truly hope he receives the blessing of finding a wonderful home in Germany. If you are interested in Dorie, please download the relevant self-disclosure and send it to us completed. Thank you! Dorie is looking forward to your inquiry! ♥ Further information: the dogs come to Germany with flight sponsors via Traces and the prescribed health documents. They are vaccinated, chipped and dewormed. The interests of animal welfare and the statutory requirements are strictly adhered to.

Neue Infos: And, this is regarding Dorie. About Dorie

What life with Dorie looks like

Dorie is a medium-sized adult labrador retriever dog waiting at German Hands meet Korean Paws e.V. in Ebstorf.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dorie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dorie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. German Hands meet Korean Paws e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dorie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dorie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — German Hands meet Korean Paws e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dorie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dorie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with German Hands meet Korean Paws e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dorie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
