Dorita

Mixed Breed · Female

Dorita lives with our friends from “El buen amigo” because she proved unsuitable for life during the hunts. What a stroke of luck for this cheerful Galgo girl: Now she has the chance to start a life alongside a family—a life full of walks, cookies, soft beds, and lots of cuddles. Unlike so many of her fellow dogs, who are crammed into dark kennels, kept on short chains, fed inadequately to keep their hunting instincts high, deprived of affection, and constantly at risk of being shot or abandoned. It goes without saying, but Dorita has eyes so big they could melt stones. She could easily be the star of an anime—and anyone who sees her photos will surely wonder for a moment whether maybe, just maybe, a filter was used. No, our funny Galgo has truly perfected the dachshund look for greyhounds! Aside from her fabulous appearance and elegant demeanor, Dorita is also a real treasure. The three-year-old lady (as of 07/2026) gets along with dogs of all sizes and ages and can even enjoy her sunbath next to the grumpiest residents of the shelter. Even the shelter staff can’t resist Dorita’s sunny disposition. She wins everyone over with her curiosity, her tenderness, and her willingness to greet each day with enthusiasm and a sense of adventure. Dorita is a sighthound, but contrary to popular belief, our Galgos don’t need longer walks than other dogs. What these sprinting wonders do need, however, is the chance to really let loose once in a while. Since many of our lightning-fast athletes also show strong hunting instincts, a well-fenced property—or regular trips to the dog park—would be ideal, allowing Dorita to put her long legs to their natural use. Otherwise, she’s perfectly happy with regular walks by the side of her favorite humans. Inside the home, our Podencos and Galgos are often surprisingly low-key. They move almost silently, sleep a lot—usually near the heater, because they’re real cold-sensitive souls—enjoy endless petting sessions, and seek physical contact. You could say that our running wonders almost turn into cats inside the house (though they do take up a bit more space on the couch, since those long legs first have to be neatly arranged and tidied up). Dorita is looking for a sporty, active, loving home with humorous people who know all about cuddling and spoiling. If this description sounds like you and you’ve already fallen head over heels for Dorita’s big, round eyes, we’d love to hear from you soon!

DE·Show original

About Dorita

What life with Dorita looks like

Dorita is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dorita, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dorita?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dorita on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dorita if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dorita already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dorita isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dorita and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
