adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Erika has found her home! Her story: Sometimes life begins in the darkest places: In an old, abandoned factory, five siblings were struggling to survive without their mother. The mother was missing, and the little ones were completely on their own – deeply scared and hidden from the outside world. Thanks to the brave efforts of the fire department, two of them were rescued: Erika and her brother Benji. Sadly, three of her siblings did not make it. Erika is today about 5–6 months old and just at the beginning of her life. She will one day be a larger female dog. Visually, she resembles a Malinois mix, which is also reflected in her nature: sensitive, attentive, and with great potential for a close bond with her people. Erika still needs time to build trust. She is cautious and reserved around people at first. But she blossoms in the company of other dogs: She is very social, friendly, and playful. On her foster home, she is strongly oriented towards the existing dogs and learns from them that the world can be safe. She also knows cats. For Erika, we wish for a quiet, experienced home, ideally with a confident single dog where she can orient herself. A house with a securely fenced garden in the countryside or on the outskirts would be perfect. Children should already be older and respect that Erika needs time and space. As a Malinois mix, Erika brings a lot of potential – but also demands: She needs clear structures, patience, and reliable leadership so that she can gain security and develop well. Especially important is to practice being alone in small steps from the beginning and to show her that she doesn't have to control everything. Looking ahead to the approaching puberty, we are looking for people with a good understanding of dogs who can accompany her lovingly but consistently. Attending a good dog training class would be a valuable support. Erika travels microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated with an EU pet passport to her new home. Positive review also a foster home would be a wonderful next step for her. Thank you to Stephanie F., who gave Erika her name and a piece of her identity. As of: 03.04.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Stand: 03.04.2026

About Erika

What life with Erika looks like

Erika is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Erika, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Erika?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Erika on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Erika if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Erika already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Erika isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Erika and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
