Fado

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 11 years

Fado is a senior dog with a huge heart looking for a peaceful home. Fado is a small dog who didn't have an easy start... He came to our foundation after an accident - from a municipal shelter - hurt, terrified and lost. At first, he was full of stress and distrust. He defended himself as best he could - he sometimes bit, because everything hurt him, and besides, he was afraid of the world and people. Fado had a dislocated hip-sacral joint with displacement, a broken ischial and pubic bone. In addition, he had a bilateral rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament. And even a tumor on the thyroid...But Fado has undergone an amazing transformation, both physically and mentally. Today he is a completely different dog - calm, affectionate and very thirsty for closeness. He has become very nice, he lets himself be stroked, and even kissed. He clings more and more to a person, although he is not pushy - he gently shows that he wants to be close.Basic information about Fado: - age: about 11 years - weight: about 8 kg - after surgery on the thyroid lobe and the tendons of the hind legs - neutered. Fado moves calmly and without haste. He walks on a leash, but he feels more comfortable on a fenced area where he can walk slowly at his own pace. It happens that he stops and lies on the grass - he likes to rest and absorb the moment. At home, he keeps clean and has a huge appetite. He is very friendly to people, but not pushy - he doesn't demand attention, he just quietly approaches it.In relations with other dogs, he is rather neutral. He does not seek conflicts, but if a dog violates his space, he can defend himself.Cats are indifferent to him. What kind of home is Fado looking for?Fado needs a quiet, quiet place where he can live without stress. He would best find himself as a single or with another very calm senior dog who will not tease him to play or overwhelm him with his energy. This is a dog that doesn't need much - just security, patience and heart. In return, he gives something priceless - his presence, trust and peace. This is a dog with a huge heart!Fado currently lives in a temporary home near Warsaw. Fado do adopcji - Fado Lokalizacja: Warszawa Fado – senior z ogromnym sercem szuka spokojnego domu. Fado miał zwichnięty staw biodrowo-krzyżowy z przemieszczeniem, złamaną kość kulszową i łonową. Jakiego domu szuka Fado? W zamian daje coś bezcennego – swoją obecność, zaufanie i spokój. To pies o ogromnym sercu!Fado mieszka obecnie w domu tymczasowym pod Warszawą. About Fado

What life with Fado looks like

Fado is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Fundacja Psa Karmela in Poland.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fado, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fado?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fundacja Psa Karmela handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fado on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fado if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fundacja Psa Karmela will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Fado already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fado isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fundacja Psa Karmela early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fado and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
