jQuery(document).ready(function($) { setTimeout(function(){ $('.boosted-elements-fotorama-8270bcc').fotorama(); Gender: Female Age: Born around 2020 Fibi suffers from an inherited retinal degeneration and can only see vaguely, in addition, she has a mild, also inherited neurological disorder. Her current foster home writes: I am Fibi, roughly 3 years old. I suffer from ataxia, am nearly blind, and have some mental retardation. Up until now, I lived as a second dog in my family, but my companion sadly passed away, and since then, I have been quite disoriented. I do not like small children very much; they scare me. The cats, which I used to love, I no longer like. Therefore, I am looking for a new home where a dog already lives who can give me a bit of security. I am a very grateful, loving female dog if you have a little patience with me. Who has a heart for this poor little schnauzer that just wants a quiet spot in an apartment? The story of Fibi begins on the island of Santorini, Greece: Fibi had not had a nice life before. Together with a puppy, she appeared at a church on the island of Santorini. The local community administration was contacted by the local priest because the two dogs were disturbing the visitors. So, Giannis, the community worker there, was called to fetch her. It took a long time to catch Fibi because she was very afraid and could not see what he wanted. Initially, the two dogs went into the community's large shelter, but when Euangelia and Renata noticed something was wrong with Fibi, they brought her to the vet, Margarita, who said that Fibi was likely blind and had a neurological problem, but she could not give a more precise diagnosis because she did not have the necessary equipment to examine the eyes more closely. So, the little female dog could not return to the shelter, and therefore, Renata took her home. Soon, it became clear that Fibi could see something, at least she could distinguish between light and dark. However, the ideal placement was not that either, because Fibi needed a quiet environment to get to know the surroundings and gain security. Additionally, she was often bumped into or run over by the two other playful dogs there. Therefore, we brought Fibi to Germany in December '22, and she was thoroughly examined at an animal clinic. Diagnosis: Fibi suffers from an inherited retinal degeneration and can only see vaguely, in addition, she has a mild, also inherited neurological disorder that causes a wobbly gait and "chattering teeth" under high stress. Otherwise, Fibi is a lovable female dog who, although she cannot do long walks and has trouble going up stairs, is hardly restricted in her living space. Due to her limitations, we decided to take Fibi in as a permanent foster dog. We found a wonderful permanent foster home that lovingly cares for Fibi, but she can no longer stay there. We thank Mrs. Ulrike B. for taking on a partial sponsorship. We thank Mrs. Beate H. for taking on a partial sponsorship. We thank Mrs. Sandra K. for taking on a partial sponsorship. jQuery(document).ready(function($) { setTimeout(function(){ $('.boosted-elements-fotorama-8270bcc').fotorama(); Geschlecht : Weiblich Alter : geb. ca. 10/ 2020 Fibi leidet an einer angeborenen Augendegeneration und sieht nur noch schemenhaft, außerdem hat sie noch eine leichte, auch angeborene neurologische Störung. Ihr derzeitige Pflegestelle schreibt: Ich bin Fibi, geschätzte 3 Jahre alt. Ich leide an einer Ataxie, bin fast blind und geistig behindert. Bisher wohnte ich als Zweithund in meiner Familie, doch meine Kumpeline ist leider verstorben und seitdem bin ich ziemlich orientierungslos. Ich mag kleine Kinder nicht so gerne, die machen mir Angst. Katzen, die ich bisher ganz gerne hatte, mag ich jetzt auch nicht mehr. Ich suche deshalb ein neues Zuhause, indem schon ein Hund lebt, der mir ein bisschen Sicherheit geben kann. Ich bin eine sehr dankbare, liebe Hündin, wenn man ein bisschen Geduld mit mir hat. Wer hat ein Herz für dieses arme kleine Hascherl, das doch nur ein ruhiges Plätzchen in einem ebenerdigen Haushalt sucht? Die Geschichte von Fibi beginnt auf der Insel Santorini/Griechenland: Fibi hatte bisher kein schönes Leben. Zusammen mit einer Welpin tauchte sie an einer Kirche auf der Insel Santorini auf. Die Gemeindeverwaltung wurde daraufhin von dem dortigen Pater kontaktiert, da die beiden Hunde die Besucher stören würden. So holte sie Giannis, der Gemeindearbeiter dort ab. Es dauerte lange, bis er Fibi eingefangen hatte, da sie ja voller Angst war und nicht sah, was er von ihr wollte. Zunächst kamen die beiden Hunde in die kl. Auffangstation der Gemeinde, doch da Euangelia und Renata gleich auffiel, dass etwas mit Fibi nicht stimmte, brachten sie sie zur Tierärztin Margarita, die sagte, dass Fibi wohl blind sei und ein neurologisches Problem habe, sie aber keine genauere Diagnose stellen könne, da sie nicht die nötigen Apparate habe, die Augen genauer untersuchen zu können. So konnte die kleine Hündin aber nicht zurück in die Auffangstation, deshalb nahm sie Renata mit nach Hause. Dort war schon bald klar, etwas sehen kann Fibi, zumindest hell und dunkel erkennt sie wohl. Doch die ideale Unterbringung war das auch nicht, denn Fibi brauchte ein ruhiges Umfeld, damit sie die Umgebung kennenlernen kann und dadurch Sicherheit gewinnt. Außerdem wurde sie durch die spielenden beiden anderen Hunde dort oft angerempelt oder umgerannt. Deshalb holten wir Fibi im Dez.`22 nach Deutschland und sie wurde in einer Tierklinik komplett untersucht. Diagnose: Fibi leidet an einer angeborenen Augendegeneration und sieht nur noch schemenhaft, außerdem hat sie noch eine leichte, auch angeborene neurologische Störung, die ein schwankendes Gangbild ausmacht und bei hohem Stresspegel zu „klappernden Zähnen“ führt. Ansonsten ist Fibi eine liebenswerte Hündin, die zwar keine großen Wanderungen machen und schlecht Treppen laufen kann, aber ansonsten kaum in ihrem Lebensraum eingeschränkt ist. Aufgrund ihrer Einschränkungen haben wir entschieden, Fibi als Dauerpflegehund aufzunehmen. Wir hatten eine tolle Dauerpflegestelle gefunden, die sich liebevoll um Fibi kümmert, in der sie aber nicht mehr bleiben kann. Wir danken Frau Ulrike B. für die Übernahme einer Teilpatenschaft. Wir danken Frau Beate H. für die Übernahme einer Teilpatenschaft. Wir danken Frau Sandra K. für die Übernahme einer Teilpatenschaft. Fibi in ihrer Pflegestelle März 2023 Noch mehr Hunde suchen ein Zuhause... Milly wartet schon so lange auf ihre Menschen. Mia San möchte endlich ein ruhiges Körbchen für sich. Maya möchte endlich ihr eigenes Zuhause haben. Oscar ist nicht nur Menschen, sondern auch anderen Hunden gegenüber freundlich und aufgeschlossen. jQuery(document).ready(function($) { $('-studios-carousel-elementor-91a277c').owlCarousel({ itemClass: "tailwag-carousel-item", onTranslated: tailwagDisplayPrevNav91a277c, // breakpoint from 0 up // breakpoint from 768 up // breakpoint from 1025 up function tailwagDisplayPrevNav91a277c(){ $("-studios-carousel-elementor-91a277c").addClass("tailwag-carousel-left-arrow-on"); }

About Fibi

What life with Fibi looks like

Fibi is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Hunde in Not Rhein-Main e.V. in Bad Vilbel.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fibi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fibi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Hunde in Not Rhein-Main e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fibi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fibi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Hunde in Not Rhein-Main e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Fibi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fibi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Hunde in Not Rhein-Main e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fibi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
