Filou

Female · Young · 2 years

Meet Filou: The gentle, active girl who longs for the outside world Filou was born on October 1, 2024 and at 1.5 years old is a young, fit and curious dog. She loves action, play and discovery, but the days in the shelter are long and boring. She longs to use her energy and clever head during wonderful walks at the side of a new owner. Because Filou has lived in the shelter since her puppy days, she has never lived in a real home. Things like complete toilet training, walking nicely on a leash on the street and the daily sounds in the house are still strange to her. We are looking for adopters who want to guide her with love, patience and a positive, clear structure. Her mom Doris already shows in the Netherlands how incredibly fast these dogs adapt and how quickly they understand how wonderful a soft couch is! Given her young age and active nature, a house with a well-fenced and safe garden in her new home is very important. Here she can unwind after her big journey and safely take her first steps outside.

About Filou

What life with Filou looks like

Filou is a medium-sized young adult dog waiting at Stichting Lucky Dogs Rescue in Meppel (NL-wide).

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Filou, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Filou?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Stichting Lucky Dogs Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Filou on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Filou if I live in another country?: Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Stichting Lucky Dogs Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Filou already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Filou isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Stichting Lucky Dogs Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Filou and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
