Finn

Mixed Breed · Male

🐾 Finn is looking for his forever home 🐾 He is an impressive, neutered male dog with a shoulder height of about 70 cm 💪🏻. He embodies a mix of Belgian German Shepherd (X-Mechelaar) and Dutch German Shepherd – an intelligent, work-loving, and sensitive companion for experienced hands. 🌳 Finn loves long walks, especially in the forest, where he can put his nose to good use. Scent games and 🦮🏃🏼 mantrailing are his favorites and bring him great joy. Generally, Finn wants to be both mentally and physically challenged – he enjoys working with his human and learns quickly. A particularly lovely trait: Finn enjoys small massages during walks and appreciates when this loving routine is maintained. ❤️🐶 With the right, confident leadership, Finn shows himself to be a wonderful companion. He is familiar with wearing a muzzle and, with clear guidance, is also well-behaved in dog encounters. He has already been specifically trained at the Burlager dog center. For Finn, we are looking for a home with dog-experienced people, ideally with knowledge of working dog breeds. 🏡 A house with a securely fenced garden is a must. Finn wants to live as a solo prince – therefore, there should be no children or small animals in the household. Regular contact with other people and their dogs is desirable, as well as continued involvement with the dog center, so that Finn continues to receive optimal support. Finn is seeking people who enjoy working with him, furthering his development, and going through life together. Whoever takes him on will have a loyal, eager-to-learn, and special dog by their side. He is vaccinated, microchipped, and dewormed, bringing the best prerequisites for a new start. Are you interested in meeting Finn and giving him a suitable home? We look forward to meaningful applications. If you are interested in Finn, please contact Mr. Burlager from the Burlager dog center, Saterland, Klosterstr. 9 (this is where Finn is currently located) by phone, or preferably via WhatsApp. Note: All provided data comes from Mr. Burlager.

About Finn

What life with Finn looks like

Finn is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Ammerland e.V. in Westerstede.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Finn, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Finn?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Ammerland e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Finn on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Finn if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Ammerland e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Finn already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Finn isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Ammerland e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Finn and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
