Freigänger 2

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 9 months

Jonas was surrendered to the animal shelter due to the separation from his owners. Suddenly, no one had enough time for him anymore. He is a very affectionate tomcat who enjoys being stroked but is initially cautious and waiting. Jonas was used to being on a loose leash in his previous life and would like to be allowed to go outside again after the adjustment period in his new home. He unfortunately has a heart condition and needs to take a tablet once a day. Jonas knows children – but they shouldn’t be too loud and hectic, as he is a rather calm and laid-back tomcat. He gets along well with the other cats in his room – he leaves them alone but doesn’t seek their company. (Currently available for trial placement with interested parties) The beautiful Fanny came to us only for neutering after being caught as a feral stray. She was supposed to be released back into the wild after the procedure. However, unexpectedly, she behaved neither aggressive nor wild or panicked in the animal shelter. Already in the first days, she allowed herself to be stroked gently on her head. Now, she enjoys cuddles but doesn’t approach visitors on her own, instead waiting for someone to come to her. Fanny is very compatible with fellow animals. She likes to cuddle and play with other cats but prefers to lie in their vicinity. Of course, the animal shelter life is stressful and challenging for a kitten that lived without human contact for a longer time and learned to keep a distance from people. We are sure, however, that she will thrive in a quiet home if she has the time to settle in and become comfortable. Bob knows what he wants! And on the photo taken on his first day at the animal shelter, he clearly showed what he thought of suddenly being in a foreign environment. With full distrust, he observed the surroundings in which he found himself. He was not always agreeable when we wanted to examine, stroke, or groom him and made that clear. Even after moving to the adoption area, he had to first "clean up" his room, as he didn’t like sharing the space with every cat. Now, however, Bob has become much more tolerant and finds life with us not so bad. Other cats can be there too. Bob would probably feel better, though, if he didn’t have to share his new home with another cat. Bob enjoys being stroked and approaches people on his own. However, he needs time to get to know new people before he relaxes. Bob wishes for a home with people experienced with cats without other pets and without small children and would like to be allowed to go outside again after the adjustment period. Vanja, like a distant observer, prefers to be seen but not touched by people. Her fear is simply too great. In her scratching post den, she feels safe and can observe well. She won’t get bored there. And when someone dares to come close, she knows how to defend herself. Vanja is compatible with fellow animals. A free life on a farm would be ideal for her or someone with the patience and perseverance to gradually accustom her to life with people. For Vanja, too, it holds true: She gets along well with other cats and would benefit from an independent, people-friendly cat during the adjustment period in a new home. Edda, like Vanja, is about 9 months old and very shy. Together, they are simply two young cats who play, cuddle, and frolic. This cat needs outdoor access. Gets along with other dogs.

DE·Show original

Bob weiß was er will!

About Freigänger 2

What life with Freigänger 2 looks like

Freigänger 2 is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Ansbach in Ansbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Freigänger 2, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Freigänger 2?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Ansbach handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Freigänger 2 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Freigänger 2 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Ansbach will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Freigänger 2 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Freigänger 2 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Ansbach early rather than rehoming privately; they know Freigänger 2 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
