Freya

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 9 years

We are home to many animals—whether dogs or cats—who often struggle to find a home due to behavioral issues or health problems and ultimately end up staying at our foster homes for the rest of their lives. Since all our animals live together as part of the family within the house, even our special-needs pets never lack affection and security. We have a very large meadow where the dogs can romp around to their heart’s content, and in autumn 2021 we also set up a training ground for our protégés, where they can now be mentally and physically stimulated according to their individual natures. However, caring for our special-needs animals always involves veterinary costs—especially when it comes to our senior pets. That’s why we’re always grateful when animal lovers support us with donations, enabling us to cover these often very high veterinary expenses. We want nothing but the best for our charges—even those with behavioral challenges deserve the very best care possible. After all, they can’t help that their start in life was made so difficult by a lack of proper upbringing or negative experiences with humans.

About Freya

What life with Freya looks like

Freya is a extra-large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz aktiv Kärnten in Tierschutz Kaernten.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Freya, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Freya?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz aktiv Kärnten handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Freya on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Freya if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz aktiv Kärnten will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Freya already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Freya isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz aktiv Kärnten early rather than rehoming privately; they know Freya and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
