On December 6, 2014, at 11:20, a completely desperate lady called us: She had separated from her husband and they were living in a "war of roses." The husband had stolen her car on the evening of December 5 and returned it to her at night—fully loaded with geese and ducks. The police, who were called in, referred the lady to the our shelter. We couldn't say how many animals were in the car, so we drove to Traben-Trarbach to see for ourselves. Our breath was taken away! Through the frosted car windows, we only saw orange beaks, and we didn't dare to open the car doors in the city. One more herd of geese and ducks running freely in the city would have been enough. So we asked the lady to drive to the farm behind us to let the animals out! Two ducks got out, then a goose, and another one, and another one… we lost count. In total, there were eight geese and two ducks crammed into the small car. On the night of March 1 to March 2, 2022, Mecki made his quiet and unforecastable journey to the Rainbow Land! We found him dead in the stable, mourned by his wives Frigga and Hannelore. The two sat very still beside him. Mecki was 8 years old. "Dear Mecki, you were very proud to lead the 'Quacking Gang.' All the goose ladies—except Gisela, who joined Rolf—fell at your feet, and the geanders had great respect for you! You were not only beautiful but also a good protector for the goose ladies. We are very sad that you left us, but we hope that it is going well for you where you are now! Thank you for the many years we lived together!"

Am 6. Dezember 2014, gegen 11.20 Uhr rief eine völlig verzweifelte Dame bei uns an: Sie hatte sich von ihrem Mann getrennt und lebt mit ihm in einem „Rosenkrieg“. Der Ehemann hatte am Abend des 5. Dezember das Auto der Frau gestohlen und es ihr in der Nacht wieder -voll mit Gänsen und Enten – vor die Tür gestellt. Die eingeschaltete Polizei verwies die Dame an den Tierlebenshof. Wie viele Tiere in dem Auto saßen, konnte man uns nicht sagen, also fuhren wir nach Traben-Trarbach, um uns selbst ein Bild davon zu machen. Uns stockte der Atem! Durch die beschlagenen Autoscheiben sahen wir nur orange Schnäbel und wir trauten uns nicht, in der Stadt die Autotüren zu öffnen. Eine Herde von Gänsen und Enten, freilaufend in der Stadt, hätte uns gerade noch gefehlt. Wir baten die Dame also, hinter uns her auf den Hof zu fahren, um die Tiere dort rauszulassen! Zwei Enten stiegen aus, danach eine Gans und noch eine und noch eine… wir verloren kurz den Überblick. Insgesamt waren in dem Kleinwagen acht Gänse und zwei Enten eingepfercht. In der Nacht vom 1.3. auf den 2.3.2022 hat sich Mecki still und leise und vor allen Dingen überhaupt nicht vorhersehbar auf die Reise ins Regenbogenland gemacht! Wir fanden ihn tot im Stall, betrauert von seinen Frauen Frigga und Hannelore. Die beiden saßen ganz still neben ihm. Mecki ist 8 Jahre alt geworden. „Lieber Mecki, ganz stolz hast Du die „Schnattergang“ angeführt. Alle Gänsedamen – bis auf Gisela, die sich Rolf angeschlossen hat – lagen Dir zu Füßen und die Ganter hatten großen Respekt vor Dir! Du warst nicht nur wunderschön, sondern auch ein guter Beschützer für die Gänsedamen. Wir sind sehr traurig, dass Du uns verlassen hast und hoffen, dass es Dir dort, wo Du jetzt bist, mehr als gut geht! Danke, dass wir viele Jahre mit Dir zusammen leben durften!“ Ruth
