Georgie

Cocker Spaniel · Female · Senior · 9 years

Meet Georgie! Beautiful Georgie is a very timid and nervous girl who is looking for a special home where she can finally feel safe, secure and loved. Georgie can be unsure of the world around her, but once you take the time to earn her trust, her lovely personality begins to shine through. Beneath that nervous exterior is a very sweet girl who just needs someone to believe in her and give her the time she needs to blossom. She will need patient, gently handling and understanding people who won’t rush her or expect too much too soon. Georgie is still learning about some of the things many dogs take for granted. Wearing a harness is something she is still unsure about, and walking on a lead is all new to her. Grooming can also be frightening, as she is scared of the brush, so this will need to be introduced slowly and sensitively. Georgie is looking for a quiet, calm home with people who have previous experience with timid dogs. She needs someone who understands that confidence cannot be rushed and that even the smallest steps forward deserve to be celebrated. She may take time to settle in and learn to trust her new family, but with kindness, consistency and plenty of patience, she will begin to feel more comfortable and allow her lovely personality to shine brighter each day. Georgie isn’t looking for a busy life or big adventures just yet. She needs a safe haven, patience and an adopter that will let her go at her own pace. At 9 years old. this sweet girl deserves to know what it feels like to be truly safe, cherished and loved. Georgie would benefit from a private secure garden. Georgie has interacted with other dogs while in our care, although she can be a little unsure around them, she does seem to enjoy their company, so we feel she could possibly live with another older, calm dog following a successful meet and greet (must be neutered). We are unsure how Georgie would react around cats.

About Georgie

What life with Georgie looks like

Georgie is a medium-sized senior cocker spaniel dog waiting at Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) in Manchester.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Georgie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Georgie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Georgie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Georgie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Georgie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Georgie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Georgie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
