Adopt GERALD

Male · Young · 2 years

Estimated Birth Date: January 2024 Brief Info: friendly, people-oriented, cuddly, gentle, kind, family-friendly, older children+, male dogs+, female dogs+, cats+ GERALD was born in January 2024 and comes from a loving, responsible breeding. His owner had been waiting a long time for a male dog and had invested a lot. Now, it is hard for her to part with him. Recently, GERALD was diagnosed with the early stage of "dry eye" (KCS) and requires three times daily eye drops since then and will need them for life. As his owner wants to ensure that this condition is not inherited, she has reluctantly decided not to breed with him and has even given up her entire breeding operation because she no longer has the energy to search for a new suitable male dog. She loves GERALD very much and wishes for him a wonderful home where he will be loved and cared for. She would be very happy about occasional contact with his new family. GERALD is an exceptionally kind and friendly male dog. He gets along well with other dogs and is always gentle and reliable around children. The breed is known to be free of aggression – and that is exactly how he is in everyday life. Even with cats, he is cautious and respectful and does them no harm. GERALD is simply a lovable, pleasant dog with a big heart. The sweet GERALD would fit into any quieter home, as long as he is loved and cuddled. Of course, one must be prepared to take care of his eye for life. Breed experience would be advantageous. After his adjustment period, he will surely also look forward to nice outings and small adventures. GERALD will be neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and with an EU pet passport when he moves into his new home. Would you like to offer this charming puppy a cozy dog bed? Then we look forward to your message!

About GERALD

What life with GERALD looks like

GERALD is a small young adult dog waiting at Pfotenretter Ungarn in Pfotenretter.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting GERALD, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about GERALD?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pfotenretter Ungarn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw GERALD on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt GERALD if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pfotenretter Ungarn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is GERALD already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if GERALD isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pfotenretter Ungarn early rather than rehoming privately; they know GERALD and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
