GIGINA

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 5 years

Gigina is a 5-year-old female dog from Sicily, Italy. We urgently need a loving adopter. Her future and that of the other dogs in the shelter is uncertain. The shelter she is currently in is closing. The dogs that have not found a home by then will be transferred to another shelter. Unfortunately, her chances of ever being seen and finding a home of her own will be much smaller there. That's why we hope someone will see this girl and give her the chance to start her life in the Netherlands or Belgium again. She is sweet, gentle, friendly and gets along well with dogs. Her hind leg is lame due to an old fracture after a collision. She is sterilized, vaccinated, chipped, with a passport, tested for relevant foreign diseases by means of a 4d test. Travels from Sicily with an authorized TRACES road transporter to the middle of the Netherlands. The adopter must have their own transport and pick her up at the agreed location. Placement by the NKM Dog & Cat Rescue Team foundation. VIDEOS Video 1 Video 2

NL·Show original

VIDEOS Video 1 Video 2

About GIGINA

What life with GIGINA looks like

GIGINA is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Stichting NKM Dog & Cat Rescue Team in Tiel (NL-wide).

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting GIGINA, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about GIGINA?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Stichting NKM Dog & Cat Rescue Team handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw GIGINA on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt GIGINA if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Stichting NKM Dog & Cat Rescue Team will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is GIGINA already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if GIGINA isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Stichting NKM Dog & Cat Rescue Team early rather than rehoming privately; they know GIGINA and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
