Gina

Female · Senior · 12 years

Warning, it gets sad now! I was given away as a very small kitten. I was so small that I still had to use a bottle. I was loved and allowed to sleep in the bed, becoming the center of Frauchen’s attention. So I lived happily and contentedly with Frauchen until, after nine years, the grandchild and her mother moved in. That’s when my peace of mind was over; I hated the little one and did everything to convey that this was too much for me. I peed, bit, and scratched, but no one wanted to see my suffering. The only consequence was that I had to go to the animal shelter. The grandchild even carried me in and drummed on my transport box, sat on it, and at the end even stumbled over my box. Here at the animal shelter, I was vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, had my teeth cleaned, and my blood tested. And imagine, it turned out that I am FIV positive. You might wonder, where could the poor Gina have gotten that from? But then it hit me like a slap in the face. I should have become a mother, but that didn’t work out because I didn’t want to. And it was exactly this one tomcat who infected me with FIV. I would have had the chance to experience fresh air for the first time in my life and then receive this diagnosis. Now I am searching for another very quiet home without grandchildren who would also adopt me with this diagnosis. Please help me! As an FIV-positive cat, I cannot be with the other cats and am housed alone. And every time I hear visitors approaching, I think, “Now… now the door will open and a loving Frauchen or Herrchen will take me to a cozy home.” And then… nothing. This always gives me a sharp pang in my heart. You can’t imagine how much it hurts.

Eure Gina

About Gina

What life with Gina looks like

Gina is a small senior cat waiting at Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. in Remagen.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gina, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gina?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gina on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gina if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gina already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gina isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gina and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
