Goku

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

Animal welfare workers around the world know certain phrases, such as: "There are suddenly allergies in the family," "We are expecting a baby and don't think we can have a dog anymore," or: "My new partner doesn't like animals." Our new arrival Goku is a victim of: "We are moving and there are no dogs allowed in the new apartment." Naturally, life is not always fair and there are certainly people who have to separate from their loyal friend for good reasons and with a bleeding heart, but the ease with which many owners hand the leash over to the staff at the animal shelter, turn around and walk away forever, is heartbreaking, angry and sad. Goku is seven years old, a cute bulldog mix, house-trained and loving - and our partners from Puntanimals could see the joyful glow in his eyes dim as his family turned away from him, as if they had just gotten rid of an old chair. The first days, the usually so funny male dog grieved and searched, and many volunteers spent their very limited time petting him, showing him that he was still loved, that the strange noises and other dogs did not pose a danger. Goku had to learn at the age of seven how a pack works and how to communicate with fellow animals. And he has mastered all of it well. Every day our little gentleman becomes more open, plays with four-legged friends, is happy when a helper can take some time to keep him company and make life behind the bars a little easier - but Goku needs to get out of this world he doesn't know quickly. He needs people who can give him back his cheerful smile, who can make his eyes shine again, he needs a dog bed, a ball and the knowledge that he will never be left behind again. Goku knows life in an apartment, he walks well on a leash, is house-trained, manageable and very nice. He doesn't need experienced dog people, but simply a loving family that loves him and gives him the life he deserves.

DE·Show original

About Goku

What life with Goku looks like

Goku is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Goku, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Goku?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Goku on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Goku if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Goku already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Goku isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Goku and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
