Adopt Gomez

Rottweiler · Male · Senior · 9 years

Gomez arrived with us in early 2023 as part of an confiscation. He originated from a case relevant to animal welfare, which is why we handle his background with particular care. We know little about his exact past – all the more important for us to find him a safe, stable home where he can start anew. At the animal shelter, Gomez is friendly and open, yet often stormy and visibly under-challenged. He brings a lot of energy and needs both physical and mental stimulation to be balanced. However, he also comes with health limitations that must be considered when he is physically challenged: he suffers from arthritis in the elbows, as well as spondylosis and narrowing in the spinal cord (Cauda Equina). He should therefore avoid stairs. Nonetheless, he is active and playful – sporty within his capabilities. His people should have fun with joint mental stimulation and offer him clear, reliable structures. During walks, Gomez generally behaves towards people, dogs, and cyclists in a relaxed manner. However, he lacks leash manners and impulse control – we are currently working intensively on these points. He is very willing to learn but needs consistent guidance to get a handle on his excitement. Frustration tolerance is not one of his strengths, which becomes clear in dog interactions or in highly stimulating situations. Children should not live in the household, as he tends to defend resources (e.g., toys). With other dogs, he is generally compatible, but we do not see him as a classic second dog, as he quickly loses emotional control in such situations. For Gomez, we are looking for a dog-experienced home without children or small animals, with people who are willing to work with patience, empathy, and clear leadership by his side. An even entrance and a structured environment are as important as mental stimulation and regular exercise, adapted to his physical condition. We highly recommend a visit to a positively working dog training class. Gomez brings great potential despite his background. Those who are ready to meet him with understanding and consistency will be rewarded with a loyal and eager-to-learn companion. General inquiry for interested parties:. Allgemeine Interessentenanfrage:

About Gomez

What life with Gomez looks like

Gomez is a large senior rottweiler dog waiting at Tierheim Ettlingen in Ettlingen.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gomez, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gomez?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Ettlingen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gomez on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gomez if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Ettlingen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gomez already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gomez isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Ettlingen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gomez and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
