Gordi

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Puppy · 4 months

Animal hoarding and the mess syndrome often go hand in hand, and we've had many cases where our friends in Andalusia were asked by authorities to take in four-legged friends from terrible living conditions. In the last three years, the situation for small animal shelters in Spain has clearly worsened. At the beginning of the Corona pandemic, many people adopted puppies. Like in many countries with very strict lockdowns, the dog guaranteed that one wouldn't be alone at home and also had the right to leave the apartment. Hundreds and thousands of dogs were thus "produced," and the path to the animal shelter was often too complicated due to various regulations, leading to dogs being ordered online and delivered at parking lots. After the supposed end of the pandemic, many of these panic purchases ended up on the streets, in animal shelters, or in state kennels. Meanwhile, the kennels filled up annually with unwanted hunting dogs. Every animal shelter, every Perrera, every private animal welfare worker reached their limits. And it shows no signs of stopping. Nevertheless, our friends still manage to respond to emergency calls—and recently, they received a call from the police to clear a residence. Fifteen completely neglected hunting dogs lived in their own feces, barely able to move between piles of trash and moldy furniture, and had surely seen the sun only through a milky white window for a long time. With the help of various organizations, it succeeded in sparing all fifteen four-legged friends the Perrera. Three of the freed ladies moved into Arconatura. Aldonza, Gordi, and Noa are all representatives of the German Short-haired Pointer breed. Muscular, elegant, enduring—these beautiful leaders are usually described this way, but a dog can only be muscular and enduring if it is adequately challenged and supported. Our three ladies need urgent training and breed-specific mental stimulation. The six-year-old (as of December 2023) Gordi is just discovering her passion for toys in the animal shelter. She doesn't care whether it's ropes, balls, or unattended rubber boots. One can see that Gordi has a large catch-up need regarding movement and play. But also affection, treats, and kind words, Gordi can't get enough of. She loves the contact with other dogs, with volunteers, with visitors—and fortunately, she now only lacks a loving family to explain the world to her that she still doesn't know. Driving, long walks, excursions, vet visits—this is all still foreign to Gordi, but with her curiosity and the trust she shows to all nice people, it shouldn't be a problem to bring the extremely eager-to-learn dog lady up to speed. If you have the time, desire, and motivation to explore the world with a fantastic cuddle ball like Gordi and explain it to her in peace, if you know how to play with a ball, if you like to snuggle and also enjoy gently stroking the belly of your new best friend, then you are exactly the person we are looking for for Gordi—and it would be great to hear from you right away.

About Gordi

What life with Gordi looks like

Gordi is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gordi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gordi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gordi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gordi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gordi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gordi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gordi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
