Héra

Female · Adult · 7 years

Héra arrived with us following an authority seizure. Unfortunately, her past did not allow her to receive the necessary medical care and guidance. She lived with an elderly lady in an environment with very few structure, references, or rules. She was also fed almost exclusively with apple pie scraps, a completely inappropriate diet that had negative effects on her overall condition. Today, she is gradually regaining strength and discovering a more stable and nurturing daily life. Despite everything she has endured, she is a gentle, affectionate, and endearing dog. She appreciates human presence and moments of tenderness, while maintaining a small independent side that also makes her charming. She enjoys being able to observe her environment calmly and evolve at her own pace. However, our protected dog suffers from significant ear problems. She has a very advanced otitis that requires regular care and will likely require ongoing monitoring and treatments. Due to the pain she feels, she struggles with manipulation around her head and ears. Therefore, it will be essential for her future family to be gentle, patient, and respect her limits in order to gradually rebuild a trusting relationship around care. Regarding her compatibility, she could get along with other dogs, but this will need to be tested on a case-by-case basis to ensure good affinities. However, we do not yet know her reactions towards cats.

About Héra

What life with Héra looks like

Héra is a adult dog waiting at Perwez) in Sans Collier.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Héra, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Héra?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Perwez) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Héra on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Héra if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Perwez) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Héra already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Héra isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Perwez) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Héra and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
