adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Hugo has found a new home! His story: The charming bulldog mix Hugo moved into his foster home in mid-January – now he just needs his final touch of happiness! Hugo is approximately 5-6 years old, active, playful, and clingy. He adores balls and squeaky toys above all else. But after playing, he also likes to snuggle with his primary caregiver or chill in his dog bed. The smart bully loves body and fur care, as he lets himself be bathed or showered with great enthusiasm. Hugo walks well on a leash, responds well to his name, and is house-trained. Hugo gets along with other dogs but would rather be a solo prince. Therefore, it's best if no other pets live in the household. Like many bulldogs, Hugo suffers from a food allergy and requires special allergy food. Hugo undoubtedly carries the genes of a French bulldog and thus counts among the so-called breed-specific breeding. His family should be aware that he is therefore exposed to the risk of certain breed-specific diseases. This includes, among others, eye and skin diseases, ear infections, food intolerances, as well as problems with the spine and teeth. The little flat-nosed ones often struggle with breathing (due to brachycephaly), so one must be especially careful with heat exposure to prevent heatstroke. We are now searching for a loving home where Hugo will be pampered as a single dog by people who will give him a stable environment with patience and affection. Hugo will be adopted into his final home vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas, and neutered. He will be rehomed for an adoption fee of 500 Euros and of course has an EU pet passport. Who would like to meet Hugo in their foster family? Many thanks to Sandra L.! You named Hugo. Date: 30.01.

Wer möchte Hugo in seiner Pflegefamilie kennenlernen? Vielen Dank an Sandra L.! Du hast Hugo seinen Namen geschenkt. Stand: 30.01.2025

About Hugo

What life with Hugo looks like

Hugo is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hugo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hugo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hugo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hugo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hugo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hugo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hugo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
