Huxley

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Male · Young · 3 years

Huxley is a timid boy initially, so will need a quieter environment to settle in and be brave in his own time. He would love a family to be around most of the time to build up his alone time, as he can be worried left on his own. Huxley will need some reminding of house-training in the new home, but being a clever boy, he'll pick this up again very quickly! Huxley loves to play with his toys, especially a ball he can chase. Huxley has lived with cats before with no issues, but will need slow intros to ensure everyone is happy! We love Huxley and his little tail wiggles and the way he sits upright when asking for a scratch. Huxley can be unsure of other dogs so is looking for a home to help him manage his anxieties around this. Meet gorgeous boy, Huxley! Huxley is a 3-year old Staffy x JRT looking for his forever home. Huxley is a worried boy initially, but he is very sweet once he's had his nice introductory sniffs! He is the biggest fan of a fuss and a tummy rub once he's made friends with his people, and shows his silly, playful side. Huxley would love a quiet home with an understanding, gentle and patient family that are able to give him the confidence he needs to live his best life! Huxley can live with secondary school aged children that are happy to let him come round at his own pace, and he would love to be the only pet in the home. Huxley walks beautifully on lead, and would be a wonderful adventure buddy! He likes to explore new, quieter places and enjoys sniffing his environment. He is such a good boy, with a sweet heart and we can't wait for him to find his forever home. He may also need slow introductions when meeting new people out and about.

About Huxley

What life with Huxley looks like

Huxley is a young adult staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Dogs Trust Cardiff in Cardiff.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Huxley, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Huxley?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Cardiff handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Huxley on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Huxley if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Cardiff will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Huxley already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Huxley isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Cardiff early rather than rehoming privately; they know Huxley and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
