Irina

German Shepherd · Male

Breed: Caucasian-German Shepherd mixed-breed female dog Age: Born around January 2021 Huhuuuuu!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am Irina, a large (for my herding dog size) adult mixed-breed female dog from a Caucasian German Shepherd x … ? … ? … who knows. My fur has grown in dense and plush, in brown-black-white, and there is definitely plenty of undercoat. I have a heavy build with a massive head, which looks really pretty with my short compact snout and my floppy ears. I am characterized by my gentle, quiet, and reserved nature, which is not really thrown off by lively children around me. I walk nicely on a leash, which I only learned as an adult. In the last year and a half, I have made incredible progress, because I was never allowed to associate positively with human contact before. Today, that is very different; I enjoy the company of two-legged beings, and there is still a lot of potential that should be further fostered. I get along well with other female dogs and male dogs in the animal shelter. I was rescued in late 2023 with many other dogs from terrible holding conditions. We lived in small, cramped pens, suffered from hunger, and led a sad existence without affection and care … some of my dog friends unfortunately did not make it to survive until the animal shelter staff came and took us into their care. A family that is already familiar with Herdis and knows what it takes: love, patience, and reliability. Regular walks and a lifetime at home. Before I travel to my new home, I will be neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. If you would like to adopt me, please contact my handlers.

About Irina

What life with Irina looks like

Irina is a small adult german shepherd dog waiting at Traurige Hundeherzen e.V. in Hamburg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Irina, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Irina?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Traurige Hundeherzen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Irina on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Irina if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Traurige Hundeherzen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Irina already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Irina isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Traurige Hundeherzen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Irina and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
