János

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

János, a Hungarian Vizsla, was released from the shelter over a year ago and believed he had found his happiness. However, fate had other plans. Due to changes in circumstances, he had to return to our partner shelter. One can only imagine how confusing and painful it must have been for him to lose his familiar home and suddenly wake up behind the bars of a kennel again. Where once there was closeness, security, and a personal bed waiting for him, today the shelter routine and waiting - waiting for people who will take him in forever this time. János is a dog that you just have to love. He loves people with all his heart, enjoys every caress and rejoices at every shared minute. His friendly, open nature and loving character make him a very special companion. János wants nothing extraordinary - just someone who never lets him go again. Someone who sees him not as a task but as a family member. Someone who shows him that a home for life can really be forever. Glück für Pfoten e.V. - The Way to a New Life - Tel. and WhatsApp: Mail: Adoption fee: €490 incl. safety harness As we are employed, we may not be able to get back to you until some hours later. It is best to contact the above-mentioned mediator in writing (by e-mail or WhatsApp) first and ask for a callback (don't forget to mention your phone number if necessary). Please be patient! Our protégés travel with Traces and are only placed in Germany (nationwide). If you would like to apply for a dog and live in rented accommodation, please arrange a written landlord's certificate stating that the keeping of an (additional or new) dog is permitted. We place dogs on the 2nd floor at most if there is no elevator available to prevent health problems.

About János

What life with János looks like

János is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Glück für Pfoten e.V. in Dortmund.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting János, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about János?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Glück für Pfoten e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw János on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt János if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Glück für Pfoten e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is János already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if János isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Glück für Pfoten e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know János and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
