But I know what safety feels like when you look into my eyes. I know warmth when you let me lie next to you on the sofa. As a puppy, I ran terrified in the middle of the road. Only luck saved me. I was so small… and so scared. Today, I am calm and gentle. I love cuddles, sunlight, nature, life beside humans who understand me. I don’t ask for much. A little patience. A little love. A quiet, warm home. I have hip dysplasia, but it doesn’t stop me. I also had surgery for a twisted stomach and was literally saved at the last minute thanks to the vigilance and self-sacrifice of the volunteers who rushed me to the doctor. Like my brother, I have to eat very expensive, specialized clinical food and take daily supplements so that I can move comfortably and without pain.
