Joaninha

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 2 years

Joaninha’s previous owner could no longer care for her. She is a lively yet happy 2.5-year-old dog. Joaninha is friendly and cheerful toward everyone she meets. She loves going outdoors and taking wonderfully long walks, followed by cozy moments together at home. However, she still needs plenty of training, so a new owner will need to dedicate sufficient time to this process. While walking, she tends to pull on the leash, but with some guidance, she can walk nicely by your side. She doesn’t know any Dutch commands because she comes from Portugal. Being left alone at home is very difficult for her—she’ll start barking and sometimes even destroy things. This behavior will need to be gradually addressed and corrected. We believe Joaninha would be happiest as an only dog; she’s not used to living with cats. Joaninha weighs almost 30 kilograms and will happily jump up onto you. Therefore, very young children would not be a good match. Animal shelter De Bevelanden, Westhavendijk 140, 4463 AE GOES

NL·Show original

About Joaninha

What life with Joaninha looks like

Joaninha is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Dierenasiel De Bevelanden in AE Goes.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Joaninha, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Joaninha?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel De Bevelanden handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Joaninha on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Joaninha if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel De Bevelanden will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Joaninha already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Joaninha isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel De Bevelanden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Joaninha and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
