Tikkel

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 12 years

Tikkel has been relinquished due to a combination of circumstances. That’s why Tikkel is now looking for a new (and permanent) home. Tikkel is a cat who is just over 12 years old. She lives up to her name, as she’s a bit stubborn—yet that’s precisely what makes her so delightful. She simply knows exactly what she likes and dislikes. Tikkel doesn’t like crowds, (young) children, dogs, or other cats. Occasionally, she’ll even give a little swat if something doesn’t suit her. Above all, she loves being able to decide for herself what she does—or doesn’t do. She also enjoys spending time outdoors. A garden is therefore an absolute must for her. Tikkel has chronic throat inflammation. To manage this, she takes medication (Dexacortone) every other day. Thanks to this treatment, she feels completely well again. She’ll probably need this medication for the rest of her life. Fortunately, she eats it easily when it’s hidden in something tasty—such as wet food, for example. This medication isn’t particularly expensive either (about €5 per month for Tikkel). In addition, Tikkel previously had bladder problems. That’s why she’ll need special diet food for the rest of her life. The recommended diet is Royal Canin Veterinary Urinary s/o. Luckily, this food is only slightly more expensive than her regular food (Royal Canin Fit 32)*.

NL·Show original

About Tikkel

What life with Tikkel looks like

Tikkel is a senior mixed breed cat waiting at Dierenasiel De Bevelanden in AE Goes.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tikkel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tikkel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel De Bevelanden handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tikkel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tikkel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel De Bevelanden will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tikkel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tikkel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel De Bevelanden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tikkel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
