Joy

Border Collie Β· Female Β· Young Β· 1 year

Joy is a very sweet, enthusiastic and affectionate Border Collie. She is a real go-getter who loves to play and thoroughly enjoys attention. Cuddles are always welcome and she regularly seeks out her owner. She gets along well with other dogs and cats. Joy has a lot of energy and zest for life and does everything with the best intentions. Joy is currently a rambunctious young lady who doesn't always have her enthusiasm under control. She knows only a few basic commands and obedience is not her strongest suit yet. Jumping up, wild playing and occasionally trying to escape are part of her daily routine. She can also be very wild and playful with other dogs and cats at first, and still needs to learn her boundaries. We are looking for people who have enough time, space and energy to work with her. Both physical exercise and mental stimulation are absolutely necessary for an energetic Border Collie like Joy. A half hour walk a day will not be enough for her.

NLΒ·Show original

About Joy

What life with Joy looks like

Joy is a young adult border collie dog waiting at Dierenasiel Gent in Gent.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡§πŸ‡ͺAdopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Joy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Joy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Gent handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Joy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Joy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Dierenasiel Gent will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Joy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Joy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Gent early rather than rehoming privately; they know Joy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
