Juju

Male · Adult · 6 years

Juju is a little "country-bred" dog. With familiar people, it is a friendly joker and is looking forward to playing with a ball. It becomes very attached to people when it perceives them as reliable, good type. This familiar, good type can be patted, brushed and cared for without any problems. When getting to know new people, there are some challenges. Juju is initially uncertain, which is shown by barking. However, it is very motivated by names, so getting to know is easy to start with. When getting to know a person, it becomes a friend who begs for pats. Juju is strong and pulls on the leash. Its uncertainty is also shown somewhat when outside: for example, various sounds make it worried if they are far away from home, and when startled, it tends to head back home. Therefore, going outside in new environments should start slowly - perhaps at first just walking the same route. On a familiar home yard, with familiar people, Juju is its own happy self. It loves ball games and the company of its people. Social life seems to have been limited for Jujun's life so far, and therefore it needs a lot of support from people around new things. This is something that must be worked on with a new home, with commitment, patience and time. New things and meeting people are learned in positive ways according to Jujun's schedule. Jujun is known to guard its own yard. This should be taken into account when waiting for visitors at home or if unknown people pass by the yard. Juju guards by barking. Juju does not get along with other males. However, it has been walking with a neutered male and females - as long as some distance is kept. Free running in the same area (yard, home) needs to be practiced. Jujun is not suitable as a park dog. Juju is looking for a calm and dog-experienced adult home, which would have prior experience either with the breed or with dogs with uncertain temperaments. Juju is not suitable for a family with children, nor will we surrender it to an apartment due to noise and narrow stairwells. Jujun's home should be located in a quiet town or sparsely populated area, in a semi-detached or single-family house near quiet walking paths.

FI·Show original

Juju on vähän ”pellossa kasvanut” hömppä. Uusiin ihmisiin tutustumisessa taas on hieman haasteita. Juju on alkuun epävarma, mikä ilmenee haukkumalla. Samaan tilaan (kotipiha, koti) vapaana laskemista tulee harjoitella.

About Juju

What life with Juju looks like

Juju is a large adult dog waiting at HESY in Helsinki.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires patient socialization work, not suitable for apartments due to barking, needs experienced owner familiar with rescue dogs or similar temperament

🇫🇮Adopting from Finland

Finnish shelters require a home visit and an adoption contract. Animals are vetted; the EU pet passport covers cross-border travel within the bloc.

Frequently asked

Adopting Juju, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Juju?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. HESY handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Juju on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Juju if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — HESY will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Juju already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Juju isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with HESY early rather than rehoming privately; they know Juju and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FI). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
