Julia

Podenco · Female · Adult · 4 years

A man left his 5 dogs in a controlled group of cats. The dogs naturally followed the cats and the cats' lives were in danger. The shelter was able to take in 4 of the 5 dogs, including little Julia (12kg). Julia gets along well with the dogs she came with. She has a harder time making new connections with new dogs because she wants to be the boss. In the shelter, they are evolving by going out in packs. But at this moment, we would rather place them as a single dog. Then she has all the attention for herself and doesn't have to be the boss. Since her adopter is always the alpha in the household 😊. Unless you want a second dog, we can place her with one of the dogs she came with and gets along well with. She is a happy egg. She is happy, funny and very affectionate. She comes to cuddle with her whole body for attention and hugs. For treats, she will sometimes sit down, give paws or crawl further on her belly. So yummy treats are a plus. A city garden would also be good for her since she would try to escape. A few points to consider, but that doesn't outweigh that lovely sympathetic character. Do you want to adopt Julia? About Julia

What life with Julia looks like

Julia is a small adult podenco dog waiting at Dogs Behind Bars in Belgium.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Julia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Julia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Behind Bars handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Julia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Julia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Behind Bars will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Julia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Julia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Behind Bars early rather than rehoming privately; they know Julia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
