Principe

Podenco Β· Male Β· Young Β· 2 years

Principe - a gentle boy with a golden heart πŸΎπŸ’› Principe was found with Princesa in January 2024, in a field. The two are still very attached to each other - especially he to her. We hope they can stay together, but realize this may not be possible. When we met Principe at the shelter, he was rather distant. But this young gentleman has made great strides in a short time: during our last visit, we could already pet him. He is not a show-off and may not be the bravest to people, but he has a soft character and is learning to trust more and more. In a family, he will bloom faster. Especially at the end, he came to sit and lie in our midst. Principe has a lot of energy and feels best in company - preferably with other dogs, because that's what he thrives on. He is social with both males and females. With cats, he is uncertain, so we will avoid them. We are looking for a loving family for Principe who will give him the quiet time to bloom. With patience, gentle hands, and the support of another dog, he will grow into a loyal, sweet companion. Do you want to adopt this young gentleman? Email us and we will send you the questionnaire. Do you want to make a one-time donation? Do you want to sponsor? Then we can make an invoice for that. Be Kind To Every Kind

Be Kind To Every Kind

About Principe

What life with Principe looks like

Principe is a young adult podenco dog waiting at Dogs Behind Bars in Belgium.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡§πŸ‡ͺAdopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Principe, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Principe?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Behind Bars handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Principe on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Principe if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Dogs Behind Bars will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Principe already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Principe isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Behind Bars early rather than rehoming privately; they know Principe and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
