Arya

Podenco · Female · Young · 2 years

Arya is a beautiful Podenco around 2 years old. She was given up by a hunter because she wasn't good at hunting. The many shots and the hunter's life made her scared. She arrived super thin, covered in fleas and terrified. Step by step she has made great strides and has made a lot of progress. But Arya is afraid of new people and so of us when we met her. To avoid upsetting her, we didn't force her to take pictures with us. With the volunteers at the shelter, she has formed bonds. She greets them cheerfully, lets herself be hugged and walks more calmly on the street. She is super social with all the other dogs and is rather submissive and shy by nature. Upon arrival, she did nothing to cats during the test, but now that she has become more confident, this test will be done again. Our allies in Spain and we would like to see her in a family that gives her confidence. Experience with scared dogs is desired. She will make more progress in a family than in the shelter where they don't always have as much time. A stable and balanced other dog would be a real bonus for her. Arya is a slender beauty, tall, long and slender. Do you want to adopt her? Email us and we will send you the adoption procedure. Be Kind To Every Kind

NL·Show original

Be Kind To Every Kind

About Arya

What life with Arya looks like

Arya is a young adult podenco dog waiting at Dogs Behind Bars in Belgium.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Arya, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Arya?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Behind Bars handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Arya on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Arya if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Behind Bars will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Arya already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Arya isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Behind Bars early rather than rehoming privately; they know Arya and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
