Kaninchen Joé

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 2 years

Mama Nunschuk and daughter Nono moved into Irmenach on May 4, 2014, and Papa Joé followed on May 8, 2014. Together with Beauty, Nikolaus, and Mogwai, they moved into the large newly built "Villa Hase" with an extensive, fenced-off run. The family father Joé appears sensible and composed. He is the calm one in the small family (Nono, Nunschuk, Joé). While the women of the family are more curious, Joé has a somewhat serious demeanor. The pretty Nunschuk is forward and seeks the company of Mogwai and Nikolaus, who are happy to oblige. Nono, with her youthful temperament, is the most curious and outgoing of all. Additionally, she is very voracious. Nono will squeeze herself through to get to the food and pick out the "best" pieces. That all the bunnies of the "Rabbit Gang" are neutered is hopefully obvious! On December 12, 2017, we had to say a heavy-hearted goodbye to Joé. He was found dead in the stable for unknown reasons. A respiratory infection a few months earlier had been well tolerated, and he was completely healthy. He had eaten well and enjoyed the time with the other bunnies. On the evening of December 11, 2017, he did not come, as usual, to the food. Lethargically, he nibbled on a parsley stem. I decided to take him to the vet the next morning. When I came to feed them at around 6:30 AM, Joé was already dead. Joé was about 4 1/2 years old, so still relatively young. Even the veterinarians could not explain his death. We hope very much that Joé is now hopping around on the evergreen meadows in the Rainbow Land with many other bunnies.

About Kaninchen Joé

What life with Kaninchen Joé looks like

Kaninchen Joé is a small young adult mixed breed rabbit waiting at Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. in Irmenach.

Rabbits are social animals — most shelters recommend adopting them in bonded pairs rather than alone. They need fresh hay daily, several hours of out-of-cage time, and rabbit-safe spaces to explore. They live eight to twelve years, longer than many people expect.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kaninchen Joé, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kaninchen Joé?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kaninchen Joé on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kaninchen Joé if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kaninchen Joé already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most rabbits on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kaninchen Joé isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kaninchen Joé and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
