Kay

Jack Russell Terrier · Male · Adult · 6 years

I am Kay... and although I am not particularly large, I have a big personality looking for a home with dog-experienced people. This is me: I am a lively, confident guy who knows what he wants. I am also deaf, so I can't hear spoken commands. So I need people who communicate with me through hand signals and are willing to train with me. I am a temperamental dog who likes to comment on everything around me. Even on a leash, I can get quite upset and jump into the leash. When I get stressed, I also tend to snap. Unfortunately, this has led to biting incidents in the past. I let other dogs pass me calmly. I need time to build trust and get used to new people. That's why it's important that my future people can assess my behavior well and not overwhelm me. I don't like strangers at first, it takes time. What I need most is a quiet, well-structured daily routine with clear rules that I can orient myself around. Because even though I'm small, you shouldn't underestimate me. I wish for... a home with dog-experienced, confident people who are familiar with dealing with more difficult dogs. You should give me security, set clear boundaries and be willing to work with me. I look forward to a quiet, low-stimulation living environment on the outskirts of town or in the countryside - too much hustle and bustle and constantly changing impressions would not be for me. Children should not live in the household. Since I need a lot of time to get used to new people, several visits to the shelter will be absolutely necessary. We should get to know each other in peace, so I can build trust. Do you want to meet me? Then contact us via the application form below or by phone at Lassie-Haus (daily 13-16 except Saturdays).

About Kay

What life with Kay looks like

Kay is a small adult jack russell terrier dog waiting at Tierheim Berlin in Berlin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kay, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kay?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kay on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kay if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Kay already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kay isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kay and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
