Adopt Kaya

Female · Adult · 7 years

I was born in Saudi Arabia and rescued from the streets there, then brought to the Netherlands. Here, I have lived with my rescuer so far, and the intention has always been to move into a permanent little house, but unfortunately, Corona messed things up. Now my rescuer has to travel more again, and I'm now looking for my own master. I am a real lady and quite self-confident, although I may seem very insecure at first, once I get used to somewhere, I am secretly not at all that insecure anymore. I have a clear opinion about what I like and don't like. Because of other dogs, I definitely won't let the cheese off my bread, but some individuals are tolerated 😉 These are mainly the males, but they really shouldn't bother me too much, I am very attached to my personal space. Well, we're all like that, aren't we. I also have a clear personal space with people. My master and well-introduced guests can really charm me for a cuddle, but I am simply an independent lady, so I prefer not to have too much fuss around me. My new master must be very sure of himself, and his authority must be greater than mine, so that he or she can simply manage everything comfortably and I can simply enjoy a lovely lazy life. Just a bit of enjoying the sun, nice long walks, and above all, enjoying all the beauty that the surroundings have to offer. Especially peace and routine are good for me, and preferably a master or mistress who has experience with having a dog from abroad or who at least want to get into it. My caregivers think I will thrive best with experienced people, without children and without other animals, people who love adventure in the wild and with whom I can go on many trips. I don't benefit from a busy environment, a busy neighborhood, or a family is therefore not suitable for me. During those long, beautiful walks, I must stay on a leash, because my hunting instinct is quite present. If you are interested in this gem, we would appreciate an email with information about your experience with dogs, your living and lifestyle situation, and what your expectations are of your new housemate.

About Kaya

What life with Kaya looks like

Kaya is a adult dog waiting at Dierenasiel Crailo in Hilversum.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kaya, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kaya?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Crailo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kaya on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kaya if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Crailo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kaya already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kaya isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Crailo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kaya and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
