Kifer

Male · Adult · 7 years

Some like the forest, others the fields – Kifer is open to any option. Far from the animal shelter, when all the tension associated with being in a kennel run, in a large group of animals and in constant stress starts to leave him, Kifer changes completely. Then a real pleasure-seeker comes out of him – a carefree butterfly (although rather heavy in weight), with whom it's simply pleasant and fun to go for a walk... If you think that a walk with Kifer is a hardship, a struggle and a prayer for survival, you're wrong. Clearly, Kifer is a strong dog and can pull, so reflexes and a bit of courage will always be useful, but he is definitely closer to the stroller mode – a calm sniffer than an excited runner. Kifer loves to visit new places, likes to soak his paws in water, to roll in the grass and look for something to eat. Sometimes it will be an ear of corn, sometimes another potato straight from the field. He can also quite elegantly exchange his "treasures" for a treat. He is definitely the type of dog that works more with his nose than with his legs. The most important thing is to have somewhere and someone to go with. This is how we see Kifer in the future – in natural areas, by the side of a person who understands that for a sensitive dog, a meadow, forest or field is not a fancy, but the fulfillment of basic needs. In our dreams, we also see the continuation of this story: after a proper walk, Kiferek lies on his back on the bed and sleeps like a sweet "bobo". We know a bit about his earlier fate. Homelessness is not a new experience for Kifer – even when he had "his people", he shared their homeless fate and lived in an abandoned house. Those times are gone: the abandoned house was torn down, the people's roads went separate ways, and Kifer ended up in the animal shelter, where he had to learn a new routine and that walks and people need to be waited for. Despite that, he still has a lot of positive attitude towards the world – he likes to accompany us, easily befriends new people, timidly asks for pets. At the same time, it's clearly visible that noise, tension from other dogs, a cramped cage and lack of space strongly affect his well-being. We have no doubts – the animal shelter is the worst place where Kifer could end up. That's why we are urgently looking for responsible caregivers, ready to dedicate time, attention and energy to him. Kifer is looking for a home in a green, suburban area, by the side of patient, calm, consistent people who love long walks. For now, we recommend that it be a home without other animals, although we don't rule out that in the future he could have dog companions – currently, in shelter conditions, it is difficult to provide him with appropriate experiences, and Kifer himself clearly tends to avoid dogs more often than to show off in their company.

PL·Show original

Czasem będzie to kolba kukurydzy, czasem inny ziemniaczek prosto z pola. Kifer szuka domu w zielonej, podmiejskiej okolicy, u boku ludzi cierpliwych, spokojnych, konsekwentnych i lubiących długie spacery. About Kifer

What life with Kifer looks like

Kifer is a large adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Needs quiet environment away from shelter stress, requires patient owners

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kifer, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kifer?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kifer on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kifer if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kifer already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kifer isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kifer and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
