Adopt Kostek

Male

KOSTEK - When he came under our care, he was literally a shadow, a walking bundle of misfortune. Covered in larvae, with a body so emaciated that every attempt to rise was an almost impossible effort. Kostek weighed only 8.2 kg then. He should weigh much more. A single glance was enough – bones wrapped in skin, a hollow gaze where something flickered on the edge of surrender and a quiet plea for help. From his condition, he received his name Kostek. Unfortunately, Kostek does not have control over his eliminative functions, requiring daily care, a concern he has never experienced before. We had to fight not only with his destruction but also with parvo, which came as another blow from fate. And yet, Kostek did not give in. His body fought, and he, despite everything, became a happy, lively dog. Kostek, though he survived hell, still trusts in humans. He seeks closeness, cuddles as if he wants to make up for all the years of loneliness. Sometimes he is persistent, as if he fears he will be abandoned again. And perhaps he has a right to be, because it already happened – he was returned from adoption. Because he is not perfect. Because he does not meet expectations. And yet, Kostek does not need much. Just a warm spot, care, a person who will not turn away when it is time to bathe and attend to his hygiene. Someone who will look into his eyes and not see a problem, but a friend who deserves love. Kostek also finds a perfect match among other dogs and can confidently live with other four-legged friends. ul. About Kostek

What life with Kostek looks like

Kostek is a adult dog waiting at Schronisko Kielce in Kielce.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kostek, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kostek?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Kielce handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kostek on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kostek if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Kielce will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kostek already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kostek isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Kielce early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kostek and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
