Laila

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Approximately 4,000, probably a bit more, dogs have flickered across my screen over the years. Beings I only knew from pictures and forms, for which I tried to create a text that would give our rescues a start in a new life. When you look at so many pictures every day, things repeat themselves, many dogs pass by, some stories stay in your mind because they are particularly tragic or have a special happy ending – and then there are four-legged beings, when I see the first photo, it immediately touches my heart. Then I know, there is a very special soul waiting for her match made in heaven ... and with Laila it was like that right away.Laila was repeatedly seen by animal protectors crossing a busy country road near the shelter – one day, it was certain – the beautiful mixed-breed lady would end up under a car. So they tried to contact the supposed owner, but the man, who several neighbors had named as Laila's owner, denied knowing the dog at all. Since Laila, like so many four-legged animals in Southern Europe, did not have a chip, the beautiful girl, who was just over a year and a half old (as of May 2021), came into the care of our friends from Dolmen Animal. Initially, the magnificent nose was very reserved, and it was clear that she had no trust in people at all, but soon she noticed how open her four-legged friends interacted with the animal protectors – and because Laila is an extremely clever girl and didn't want to miss the cookies from the pockets, she gradually thawed. Today, the little striped nose with the funny mask is a real playmobile. She loves jumping and running through the outdoor area, annoying her best friend Floyd, who gladly tolerates Laila's antics. Laila loves balls and walks and generally loves life. Our friendly solo performer is looking for a family that gives her time to settle in, gain trust at her own pace, and form friendships, which will then be absolutely ready for a life full of fun and colorful adventures. I am already looking forward to seeing pictures from Laila's new home, as she flies through the garden, plays with the children, makes new friends, and takes mud baths ...

About Laila

What life with Laila looks like

Laila is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Laila, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Laila?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Laila on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Laila if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Laila already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Laila isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Laila and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
