Lani

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 4 months

Female dog LANI (Lady), born around 03/2025, shoulder height about 55 cm, about 25 kg weight, looking for a crate now. Lani is a young hunting dog mix female who immediately stands out with her open and cheerful nature. Her short tail, which she probably was born with, gives her a very special charm. So far, Lani has shown herself to be very people-oriented, friendly, and open. She enjoys attention, moves curiously around you, and loves human contact. However, outside, the young female also shows how much energy and joy of movement she has inside. Currently, she is quite lively during walks, very interested in her environment, and likely driven by hunting instincts. People are currently more in the background - which is not unusual for a young, until now under-stimulated dog like Lani. So far, she spends most of her time unfortunately in the kennel (due to the lack of volunteers). Life as a family dog is still completely new for the young female. Leash training, calmness in daily life, and the entire dog ABC must therefore be learned step by step. Lani is looking for active people who want to work with her, stimulate her meaningfully, and at the same time give her the necessary rest and orientation. Lani will certainly be very happy with long walks, an active daily life, and shared adventures. Vacations in the mountains or long trips in nature would probably exactly match her character. With patience, training, and a loving home, Lani will develop into a great companion. She is a joyful young female dog who finally wants to arrive and explore the world. We do not place in very urban living areas as well as in families with small children. Please only submit an adoption inquiry if the adoption is possible at the time mentioned in the text & you have already discussed the acceptance of a new family member with your family (if applicable, other involved persons such as employer, landlord, temporary care). Please note that the dogs described here are currently in their large foster home or in the animal shelter in a limited, safe environment and have little contact with other people or environmental stimuli outside the property. The descriptions are based on the behavior in this familiar environment. In particular, puppies and young dogs are still developing their characters. For a successful adjustment to a new home, they need time, patience, and loving guidance to get used to the new environment and various stimuli and to grow into confident dogs.

About Lani

What life with Lani looks like

Lani is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lani, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lani?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lani on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lani if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lani already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lani isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kreta Hunde (Tierschutz Heraklion) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lani and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
