Lea &#8211

Mixed Breed · Female

At first glance at Lea's photos, I thought, "Wow, what a beautiful Labrador!" With a shoulder height of just 40 cm, however, our new arrival might well be a mini Lab, a Schrumpf-Labbi. Setting aside the humor, Lea is a real snuggle ball in a body—well, what exactly? We don't know, Lea makes no claims, and to be honest, it's—German for—also a toss-up. This charming little lady is just right as she is, and we can tell you exactly why. Lea is as sweet and cuddly as she looks. She affectionately greets everyone who enters the pen where she lives with her four-legged colleagues and companions, she prefers to be gently stroked at this particularly soft spot between her ears, and she never gets enough of the petting and snuggling. Of course, there's not enough time in the animal shelter to give a dog like Lea the attention she deserves, and she undoubtedly suffers from always coming up short, like all the others, even though our Spanish partners do their best every day. At around two years old (as of January 2025), she is surprisingly calm and balanced, and despite her need for closeness, she is never pushy or ruff. How can a dog like Lea end up in an animal shelter? Well, Lea was discovered running along a busy road with a chain around her neck. A brave driver pulled over, lured the distressed little dog, and Lea literally ran right into her arms. Her rescuer brought the female dog to our Spanish friends, and since no one ever inquired about her, Lea now seeks a home from here. So here you come into play: if you're looking for a lifelong partner who will stick by your side through thick and thin, who always wants to be by your side, and who is still young enough to learn both the small and the big dog lessons, then you're exactly right for Lea. If you're then ready to give our sweetie the absolute best and most loving home, and to share your couch and your dinner (a little joke) with her—Heaven, why are you still waiting?

DE·Show original

About Lea &#8211

What life with Lea &#8211 looks like

Lea &#8211 is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lea &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lea &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lea &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lea &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lea &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lea &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lea &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
