Lemmy, a male dog, has been at the shelter since July 2026. He is estimated to be born in September 2025 and stands about 40-45 cm tall. Watch the video to meet Lemmy! **Dog Name:** Lemmy **Breed:** Not specified **Shelter:** Not specified **Gender:** Male **Estimated Age:** Born around Month (written)/Year **Estimated Height:** xx-xx cm **Estimated Weight:** xx-xx kg **Special:** Gnadenplatz/Handicap (if not, delete) **Video Link:** Watch Lemmy in another video! Lemmy was found on a gravel pit in Romania. He was likely abandoned as a puppy during the previous winter. He was rescued from the Romanian streets and taken to the shelter. More information about how dogs end up in the shelter and answers to general questions can be found in our animal welfare FAQ. Lemmy has shown himself to be somewhat shy in the shelter, but he is also curious and friendly. He was very approachable when he was rescued. This furry friend is still new to the shelter. Our caregivers are taking the time to get to know and assess each dog. We will update this profile as we learn more about his character. You can still fill out a self-assessment for this dog. Lemmy is currently having trouble using one of his front legs. An X-ray is still pending. He also has a few crooked teeth that need to be removed. Our placement team knows the best about his current health status. If you have any questions, please send us a message. We are looking for people who understand that rescue dogs have a history. We can never predict how a dog will react to life in Germany. That's why we are looking for people who have patience, perseverance, and goodwill. But one thing is certain: adopting instead of buying not only gives a second chance to an animal, but also actively decides against animal suffering - and for a life with a very special companion by your side. Already in love? Send us a self-assessment! Adoption If you are considering adoption, first read the placement process. All dogs are vaccinated, chipped, dewormed, flea-treated, and neutered (except for puppies under 6 months and very old dogs) before they leave. Dogs older than 1 year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any questions, please send a message to our placement team.

About Lemmy

What life with Lemmy looks like

Lemmy is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lemmy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lemmy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lemmy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lemmy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Lemmy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lemmy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lemmy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
